In this post i will be showing you how to access and use usb flash drive in oracle virtualbox. If you are using an operating system using virtualbox, you can access usb flash drive by changing settings and adding an extension pack of oracle virtualbox which will enable virtualbox to recognize usb flash drive.
Steps
1) Open oracle virtualbox
2) Right click on operating system you want to use usb flash drive in
3) Choose Settings
4) Go to USB
5) Click on second button which have a plus sign, on your right hand side
6) Choose your USB Flash drive ( which you should have plugged in your computer before starting virtualbox)
7) Check beside Enable USB 2.0 controller
8) If you got a yellow warning " Invalid settings detected ", Click Here to go to virtualbox webpage to download extension package. For old versions Click Here
9) First you need to know which version of virtualbox you are using
10) Go to help, about virtualbox, check the version you have then go virtualbox web page
11) Download extension Pack
12) After it finishes downloading, go to virtualbox, Go to file, choose Preferences
13) Click on Extensions
14) Click on the button on the right hand side to browse the file you downloaded
15) Click on Open
16) Click on Install
17) Agree to the license
18) After it finishes installing package it will give you a message that package is successfully installed
19) Click on Ok
20) Click Ok again
21) Go back to settings, by right clicking on operating system installed in virtualbox
22) Choose USB
23) Click on second button on right hand side
24) Choose USB flash drive
25) Make sure Enable USB Controller is checked and USB 2.0 Controller
26) Click on third button on right hand side " Edit the selected usb filters"
27) Go down to Remote, change it to YES
28) Click on OK
29) Click OK
30) Start operating system and start using usb flash drive
